A professor at the University of Hawaii named Norman Abramson developed the world’s first wireless computer communication network. In 1979, Gfeller and u.Bapst published an article on IEE proceedings describing an experimental wireless local area network using distributed infrared communication. The first IEEE Workshop on Wireless LAN was held in 1991.
