UPSSSC VDO (Village Development Officer) is a non-gazetted government employee, who is the secretary to the village head, earlier it was called as Panchayat Sevak.
But at present the government has changed the name of Panchayat Sevak to Village Development Officer. Gram Panchayat Officer and Village Development Officer are two names of the same post.
Lastly, the Gram Panchayat Officer is an employee of the Panchayati Raj Department, while the Village Development Officer is an employee of the Ministry of Development. The Village Development Officer Selection Test is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Service Selection Commission only in Uttar Pradesh.
Difference between BDO and VDO
- VDO stands for Village Development Officer while BDO stands for Block Development Officer.
- Block Development Officer is a more honorable post than Village Development Officer.
- The Block Development Officer selection exam is conducted in three stages: Pre, Main and Interview, whereas the Rural Development Officer exam is conducted in one or two stages only.
- After becoming a village development officer, you work only at the village level, but after becoming a block development officer, you work at the block level.
